Why the world is divided in social classes when everybody has the same rights? The tale talks about a man called Hughie Erskine, he was unemployed and was in love with a beautiful girl the problem was that for marry she he have to got ten thousand pounds, one day he met with an old friend called Alan Trevor, he was painting a beggar-man, Hughie feel pity for the model of the painting and gave him sovereign, later he discovered that the beggar-man was one of the richest men in London, finally the rich man help Hughie to marry the beautiful girl and they lived happily ever after, with this tale I get the next hypothesis, since long time ago the society establish that the people with money control the world, and the poor people are despised, the social classes exist because the ones that are rich feel scared of the real power that have the poor people.

Since my point of view I think that this tale show as the reality, nowadays the people just thing in their benefit not of the others, with this we only get that the world continue in that road of darkness and selfish, I love this tale because is a funny story that give us hope, for example the rich man show that there are people that make the difference, the author use easy words and the story have coherence this make that the readers understand the context of the text, also I like that the principal character is in love with someone, this make me think that there are people that continue loving and fighting for that special person not like in the XXI century that they just feel lust.

Taking into account this quote we can related it with the pity of the rich men when they saw a poor person, also we can say that for them it is easy to talk about money or the opportunities that give us the life, the real problem is that they don’t know about all the efforts that poor people do for having something to eat or just for survive, the culture makes that people thing that money is the synonymous of happiness when this is not true, maybe the rich men just work each hour of the day for have material things but they never appreciated the little things of life, the society and the culture created among the time the idea that the best way for organizing a civilization was with the social classes, but they forget the damage that this brings.

In Colombia nowadays and in the ancient times the social classes always exist, one of the big problems of our country is that many people have different ideas for change the situation in which we are but all is a business, maybe one day people understand that not because they have big houses and beautiful cars they are better than a poor person, in the tale they teach us that the good actions are rewarded, that the social classes just bring ruin and evil desires.

In conclusion we can say that the tale hide a whole social context in that funny story, the author created a beautiful text that let us think and analyze all the bad things that have the world and the society in which we live, also that the social classes is just something stipulated that brings destruction, the tale give us hope because we can say that nowadays there are people like the rich men that help Hughie Erskine.

OIL OF DOG - AMBROSE BIERCE

CORRUPTION IS NOT THE SOLUTION

Why humans have the trend to corruption by a materialistic wish? The tale talks about a family that has different kind of businesses which were illegal, the father makes oil of dog and the mother takes over the unwelcome babies, one day the son of them takes over a unwelcome baby and he was going to through it to a river but like he was in the factory of his father the fast solution was through the baby in the vast were they prepared the oil dog, the next day the father have the news that the last night they make the best oil ever, the son decided to tell what he did and since that point their parents continue doing the oil with some humans, time later one night the mother and the father fight and the killed each other, that day their son knew all the horrible thing that they parents did. Because of this tale I get the next hypothesis, since long time ago the society had created some ideologies in which the most powerful control the world, taking into account this we can say that people need the power to survive, when the people can’t have that authority the corruption appear, continually the pressure of the society make that the human feel that materialistic wish that along the time people had teach us.

Since my point of view, I think that this is a great short story because the author use a weird situation for explain a problem in the real life, for example nowadays they are many crimes that are not punish, like the animal abuse, the abort etc…, the tale make that the reader imagine all that is passing in the text also in any part of the writing I get bored or confused this make that I like the reading, it is interesting know that maybe in a future, past or present this things of the oil dog and of the unwelcome babies pass, the author make that our imagination fly and that we analyze the impact that this history have in reality.

Taking into account the initial question we can say that this quote is related because the author tell us that the business does not function with the corruption but it always is going to be present in the society, the culture make that people think in a specific way, that’s why the corruption exist because of the avaricious thinking, the material things and the money make that people lose all their values and start been a bad piece of the culture and society, the problem is that if just one person do in bad way their businesses a whole culture and society is going to be affect, because of this we have to take care with the future of the civilization.

In conclusion we can say that the tale let us think and analyze the society and all the things that involve this topic, that corruption and the materialist wish is something that teach us the world in which we live.        

Ambrose Gwinett Bierce born in 1842 and died in 1914, he was a United States story teller and journalist, his works many of the times have sarcastic elements, what he write change and had a big influence in the Pacific coast, one of the events that mark the life of Ambrose was when he have to go to the war, and for 1868 he start working in a newspaper for 1913 Bierce go to Mexico following the Pancho Villa troops and he died in 1914.

For me the online marketing is a good alternative for buying books because we have an advantage that is not waste our time going to a library, in the other hand always since my point of view is better have the book in our hands because we have the opportunity to take notes or to smell the book etc, in this case the web page that is selling the short story of William James Lampton don’t put important information of the text, for example one of the most significant things at the moment of buying a book is known about what the story talk, the literary genre, some points of view of the readers and the score of the writing, in this web site they don’t show something of what I have mention, they even put that the main topic of the short story is that a widow is in love, I don’t like this page because with the information  they give us the people is not going to be interest for buying this text.

THE HANGING STRANGER - PHILIP K DICK

Write a critique using Colombian context

The Hanging Stranger by Philip K Dick, talk about a man called Loyce that found a man hanging in a lamppost, he was scared but nobody pay attention about it, what he doesn’t know was that everybody transforms in aliens, in his house he kill one of his sons and in one part of the story he disappeared and appeared in other place, for me this was a great short story all the elements make that the reader enjoys the text, I would like that the author include more details and that there appeared more parts with the aliens, taking into account the Colombian context we can related with the ignorance of the people because everybody in the story think that Loyce was crazy, also we can related with the discrimination in the Colombian society because some people criticize other humans just for the social status that they had or because the color of the skin, in conclusion The Hanging Stranger was a great story and give as a reflection in a writing that the reader adore and make that we stop and think about life.
